So you could have a category titled “events,” which would list all articles that discussed library events (probably both upcoming and past events). There could be a category for “photos,” etc….

Categorizing

Here’s roughly how it works. First, an article is submitted. The editor logs in, views the article, and assigns categories–either by entering a new one, or by selecting old ones (marking checkboxes).

Then the articles are submitted, and once they appear on the site, they appear with the selected categories displayed near the title.

When a reader wants to view all articles on a given topic (category), they look at the sidebar (in this case, on the left), and click on a particular category. Pretty straightforward stuff.

Testing, testing…

So, we’re testing out the categories function of this software.  The nice thing about using categories, is that you can go back and read posts / articles that deal with a particular subject.  So I’ll write a few goofy test messages and assign them categories as examples.
